Oxymoronic by Nature // 08.19.01
So... real quick because the season finale of Six Feet Under is starting as I type. I was surfing around last night, browsing through diaryrings and cliques and such just to see what's out there and I found something called the Lyricality clique. The gist of the clique is for people who hold lyrics in high regard because they touch your life in a certain way and yada yada yada. Now I feel that I fall into that category and it's a great idea and all. But I did find ONE little thing off. Now, usually (for me at least) I identify with those deep, emotionally penetrating song lyrics, mostly because whoever wrote them had to have some sort of tortured soul. There's something going on inside the mind and spirit of a lyricist that comes out in the music he or she writes. That's just how I see it. Having said that, I noticed that there were an AWFUL lot of little buttons and banners for Britney Spears, and Christina Haguilera and the Backdoor Boys and N'Sync. How oxymoronic is it to have a site devoted to lyrics and lyricists that features umpteen endorsements for people who can't write lyrics? They sing other people's words and music. Maybe this is just my ongoing quest for cheesy pop music extermination talking, but does that REALLY make any sense? I'd love to see little buttons featuring fat, balding, middle aged men on them with little disclaimers saying that THIS is where all of 98 Degrees' songs come from. Anyway... (stepping down off the soap box) HBO calls.
